In June last year, four fourth class employees were temporarily appointed to the Shariatpur Health Department. But the health department is unable to pay them any salary. The local health department claims that this is happening as there is no allocation and recruitment approval. Those workers are living with their family members without getting paid for 6 months.
The health workers have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner seeking the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The petition was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday.
At Shariatpur Sadar Hospital yesterday, it was found that 12 workers were working in different wards. Arif Khan and Mehdi Hasan were found in the emergency department. Arif's house is in Shariatpur Municipality. He is the child of a poor family. He joined outsourcing as a health worker, thinking that there would be family support in the family. He told the first light, 'At the end of the month, the family members hope that I will return home with money. Come to work every day, again with zero hands. In the area, even though agricultural laborers worked, I could get 3 rupees a day. Coroner epidemic did not stop. I'm working with risk. '
Mehdi Hasan said, 'I cannot pay at home. I do not have to come to the hospital in the same situation. Family members stopped coming. I am working without knowing the risk of coronary disease. We also do not have any protective material. Still working.
According to sources in the civil surgeon's office in Shariatpur, the local health department decided to recruit the manpower through outsourcing as per the directive of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Ministry permits the recruitment of 4 fourth class employees for the financial year 20-24. Then the health department called for tenders. A service called Strad Services Limited provides that manpower in Shariatpur. The health department appointed them on June 5 last year after completing the tender activities. However, the appointment of this manpower was approved till June 6 of that year. These 3 employees are paid 3 days of June. After this the health department was not allowed to recruit them and no salary was given to them. They have been working without pay for the last 6 months.
Each of those employees of the fourth grade is expected to pay Tk. From that money, they have to pay 5 percent to their supplying company.
Shafiqul Islam, a resident of Nabibagh area of Shariatpur municipality, works at Nariya Upazila Health Complex. He travels to the health complex from home every day. He said, 'I get out of the house for work in the morning. In the evening again the empty hands. How long will I go on like this?
Al Amin Hossain worked at Jazira Upazila Health Complex. He used to travel daily from the district headquarters to the Jajirah area. "People do not go out of the house for fear of coronavirus. I'm going out and doing my duty. But there is no remuneration. '
Mizanur Rahman, the owner of the contractor firm Service Service, told First Light, "As per the contract, we have provided the manpower. The health department will pay them directly as a bank. We'll just get some commission. The health department is not able to bring the ministry's approval and allocation for next year. Because of this, those workers are not getting paid.
